Hello, and Happy 2011 to you all!
It’s January of a new year, and as has been my practice, it’s time for a new look for my blog. It’s one of the few things where I find change is good, not to mention low-key and simple. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind me a bit of low-key and simple for my 2011. Considering the amazing highs and lows I faced in 2010, that sounds pretty good to me. Not to mention there being this nifty theme with a writerly feel about it. I could use a bit of writerly-ness in my life.
So, about those goals — there are eight of them. They are all active goals. They are goals I believe I can accomplish. I would be amazed if I did so all in one year; heck I’d be amazed with two of them. I say this because while I have eight goals, I have four pages of details on how to accomplish those goals. Yeah, the drawback to being a list-maker is that you can be too detailed sometimes. Thus eight becomes a mighty number. For those of you who are curious, here’s the eight. Keep in mind they are in order of thought and not in order of importance:
- Be more positive!
- Be more budget-conscious
- Be a writer!!
- Be healthier and lose weight
- Be more social
- Be happier with work life
- Be productive
- Be creative (or perhaps more appropriately, Be craft-y)
There you have it. My goals for 2011. Some have short lists (positiveness, healthier), while others have lots of tasks tied to them (writing, being productive). I can tell you I’ve crossed two items off the list: 2.1.1 — add new budget worksheet tracking entertainment items (books/movies/etc.) as they happen; and 4.2.4 — drink water instead of sodas when at home. The first is because I love me my U-verse and I had to cut back somewhere, and the second because I simply drink too much Diet Coke. Fortunately for me, I have half price book/movie stores around town in which I can shop to make my dollar go farther, and drinking more water is always a good thing.
Like my friend Bria mentioned in a post last week, I’m easing my way into 2011 by giving myself time to shuck off 2010 first. Some things are easier to shuck than others — I will always have an ache in my heart where my cat Tinker Belle used to be; RIP sweetie — but I’m getting there day by day. Here’s hoping that getting back into my writing and messing with my characters’ lives (instead of having a messy life of my own) will be the step I need for an enjoyable 2011.
